Training Update - Ironman Arizona 2017

TRAINING UPDATE – 8 WKS TO GO
Here’s my 2nd training update. Feel free not to read it!
As of today there are 8 wks until IMAZ. This week’s training was nearly all positive and my longest so far. I can feel my body progressing to Ironman shape. Only one workout didn’t go as planned: a 7+ mile (mostly tempo) run on Friday afternoon. I started it but felt lots of fatigue. I walked a longer warm up and eased into the workout more gradually but even at a slow pace I began to bonk: no energy, extra sweating. Took in some calories as I kept going but soon pulled the plug and walked, thinking it wise to preserve the weekend’s important long training. Stopped at 30 min. It was the right decision.
HEALTH STATUS: Returned to taking a 2nd antibiotic – colitis related issues returned so trying to head them off; rib (injured 5+ wks ago-kayak fell & hit me) is about 80% tho still prevents me from breathing to left when swimming; lower back pain (mild, unchanged); right foot plantar f-ing-itis is being controlled.
Swim – 3x, 3h50min, 13,649yd (longest=4,061)
Bike – 4x, 11h46min, 156 miles (longest=105)
Run (including 1 brick) – 5x, 7h3min, 39.4 miles (longest 14.1) - this includes TWO long runs because last week's long run got shifted to Monday of this week.
